Maryhaven and Zonta - An Evening of Thanksgiving
Zonta members of the Maryhaven service committee were honored to spend time with the female residents during an evening of Thanksgiving. Maryhaven opened The Residence to allow people to continue treatment and counseling in a safe, protected environment while they return to work and re-establish family ties. Their belief is that where people have the chance to gradually prepare to fully re-enter the world, their odds of long-term recovery increase.
The evening’s atmosphere was warm and friendly. While giving thanks, one resident said she was grateful for the incarceration that brought her to this place to seek long term recovery. Another was thankful to finally be strong enough to be going home after months away from her family. Sharing time with a room full of strong women on their new life path was rewarding for all.
