Our Service

At work in our community

Service is at the center of Zonta's mission and work. Our service projects vary in a Biennium, but overall we work to perform hands-on service projects with local organizations, projects for Alves/Amethyst, award scholarships to high school, college and advanced degree students, support a local high school service club called a Z Club, and financially support our International Mission.  Each is briefly described below.

Current service initiatives include:

  • Alves/Amethyst, Inc.:  The Zonta Club of Columbus has developed an ongoing relationship with this substance abuse treatment center/homeless shelter for women and their children.  Activities include, cooking classes, Family Christmas party, volunteering at their Portraits of Recovery Fundraiser, sponsorship of graduation ceremonies and fellowship with the clients.

  • Hands-On Service Projects: The club performs service at local organizations including The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, Habitat for Humanity's Women Build, Mid-Ohio Food Bank, YWCA, and others that share Zonta's mission.

  • Scholarships: We assist women in their pursuit of higher education with the Outstanding Young Women Scholarship, the Non-Traditional Student Scholarship, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship, and the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. See the Scholarships page for more information.

Our Advocacy

A voice in our community

Advocacy is essential to The Zonta Club of Columbus' Biennial work and focus. Members bring awareness of women's issues to the local community and advocate on behalf of gender equality. The Zonta Club of Columbus and Zonta International are not affliated with any political party or religious affiliation, our goal is to execute our mission statement to advance the status of women. We currently focus our efforts on 3 areas locally: Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention, Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention, and Issues Affecting Aging Women.

The Zonta Club of Columbus has participated and supported the annual Human Traffiking Awareness Day at the Ohio Statehouse from the inaugural year.

We support the mission of Choices Domestic Violence Shelter by supporting their annual fundraiser.

We partner with various like-minded organizations to advocate to the Ohio Legislators on House and Senate bills that directly impact women and children.

Thanks to the support and generosity of The Zonta Club of Columbus, victims of intimate partner violence have a violence-free place to turn for help.
