Zonta members serve Amethyst in ways such as volunteer efforts, monetary donations and educational programs. Supporting Amethyst, Inc. is one of the primary service projects of the Zonta Club of Columbus. Amethyst, Inc. is a nationally recognized not-for-profit organization that provides long-term sober support and safe, affordable housing to women who are recovering from addictions. The program is certified by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and is a contract provider of the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County Ohio.
The Zonta Club of Columbus has supported the Amethyst women in many ways, for example:
donating sports equipment for the SummerQuest Day Camp for children of women in the Amethyst program;
providing cooking classes for women to help them become better acquainted with healthful nutrition and ways to shop economically;
purchasing Christmas gifts for women and children
donating a gift basket for the annual Amethyst fundraiser and sponsored a table for the event
purchasing multiple sets of dishes for newly acquired housing units occupied by Amethyst women; and
collecting gently used linens and other household items.
The list could go on and on. Zonta works very closely with Amethyst, Inc. leaders to respond to the changing needs of the program and the women in recovery. Zontians over the years have enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to work with the Amethyst women and to contribute in whatever way will help them individually and collectively as they continue their journey of recovery.
