MORE ABOUT MEMBERSHIP AND OUR CLUB…
The Zonta Club of Columbus is very proud of its goal of 16 new members for the 2010-2012 biennium. Membership is far more complicated and challenging. It is the “soft under-belly” of each club.
If the club is soft on growing and training the membership it cannot be successful in providing service and advocacy, fundraising, mentoring, and enhancing all aspects of the club.
The Membership Committee has been working on specific goals for the current biennium. In addition to focusing on recruitment and retention, the committee puts focus on locating qualified members and those with “new” classifications. Each Zonta club attempts at all possible to meet an expected variety of professional classifications.
When a member joins our club they are assigned a sponsor and a hostess to assure that there is a network of support. The Membership Committee and sponsors are charged with checking on active participation and attendance at meetings and events. Membership is more than paying dues!
All members have benefitted from the increased emphasis on fellowship. In addition to club fellowship events, members are encouraged to attend Zonta conferences and conventions. It is important for members to enjoy the fellowship and personal development provided by Zonta. Fellowship is vital, especially as the club grows.
The Zonta Club of Columbus takes seriously the goal to enhance the club’s relationship with emeriti members and long-term members. The Membership Committee provides cards, letters, and calls to members who built the club’s foundation. Every five years the club updates a Heritage Booklet that highlights and honors our members and accomplishments since our founding in 1929.
Membership is far more than numbers. It is relationships, networking, mentoring, communication, fellowship, service and advocacy, and older members learning from new members and new members learning from older members. That is what active Zonta membership is about!
